Holistic Social Service that supports whanau in need of support.
SuperGrans Tairāwhiti (SGT) is a Non-Government Charitable Trust located in Te Tairāwhiti; a branch of SuperGrans Aotearoa National Association. We have been supporting individuals, whānau and communities from Wairoa through Turanganui-a-Kiwa to Potikirua on the East Cape since 2003. We are governed by a board of 6 Trustees. There are 8 paid employees and 56 volunteers whose roles and functions are focused on either supporting the whānau we work directly with through facilitating cooking sessions, workshops, counselling, peer support work, networking, supplying food parcels, collecting donations, re-purposing kai and goods, social work and creating employment strategies or assisting with networking, fundraising and meeting the business needs of our organisation.
Our mission is to provide individuals, whānau and communities with the tools required to sustain a healthier more positive environment through informative, practical workshops that enhance and empower self-determination.
Our approach to our work through the development of respectful relationships empowered by our commitment to community and Māori principles / values that reflect’s the cultural heart of our region. Ngā Takepū, a framework developed by Ngāti Porou scholar and Social Work thought leader, Taina Pohatu, sets out a principled approach drawn from the Māori world as a best practice model for working with whānau. Our team has derived huge benefit from working in this way.
